American Express Launches Digital, Self-Enrollment for Financial Relief Program
Card Members Can Enroll in Relief Program Online and on Mobile Device
New York, NY – November 19, 2020 – American Express announced today that digital, self-enrollment is now available for its Financial Relief Program making it even easier and faster for eligible U.S. Consumer and Small Business Card Members to enroll in the financial assistance they may need.
“When eligible Card Members log-in to our Financial Relief Program site, their financial needs are assessed, and they are instantly presented with a payment plan that helps meet those needs,” said Doug Tabish, executive vice president, Global Card and Risk Operations. “We recognize that our Card Members want more control over the management of their finances right now. That’s why we want to provide them with the best possible relief and servicing options to accelerate their financial recovery.”
When U.S. Consumer and Small Business Card Members are enrolled in the Financial Relief Program and follow the terms, American Express can temporarily lower monthly payments and interest rates and provide relief from future late payment fees. Additionally, the program has the following benefits:
- Keep Card Membership – Card Members who are enrolled in the Financial Relief Program will not need to reapply for their American Express Card after successfully completing the program.
- Reporting to Credit Bureau – Card Members who are enrolled in the Financial Relief Program and make required payments will continue to have their account reported to the credit bureaus as current, or if it’s past due it will not be reported as any further past due. See terms for information on how enrollment in the Program may impact credit scores.
- Keep Using Their Card – Card Members who are enrolled in the short-term Financial Relief Program and make their program payments may be able to make purchases within a reduced spending limit. If, prior to enrollment, they are already at or over their spending limit, they will not be able to make purchases until they’ve brought their balance below the limit.
